FKA twigs is finally free to speak about the alleged abuse she says she suffered at the hands of actor Shia LaBeouf. According to an October 5 court filing, the former couple has resolved the last remaining dispute in their years-long legal battle, and LaBeouf has agreed that the previously contested non-disclosure provisions in their settlement are void. The 38-year-old singer, whose legal name is Tahliah Barnett, has asked the Los Angeles Superior Court to dismiss her case against the 40-year-old actor.

The dispute traces back to December 2020, when Barnett filed a lawsuit accusing LaBeouf of sexual battery, assault, and infliction of emotional distress. LaBeouf denied the claims. In July 2025, the two reached an out-of-court settlement, announcing that the matter had been resolved. But a second fight soon emerged over whether the singer could publicly discuss the alleged abuse she had endured.

Barnett contended that LaBeouf sought to enforce confidentiality provisions in the settlement after she was asked in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter whether she felt "safe." She answered that while she did not feel safe, she was passionate about working to help survivors. According to Barnett's court filings, LaBeouf then filed an arbitration demand against her, alleging her remarks violated the agreement's confidentiality terms and seeking monetary damages.

Her legal team countered that the provisions were unenforceable under California's Stand Together Against Non-Disclosure Act, which bars confidentiality clauses involving claims of sexual misconduct. She also argued that the language could be read so broadly that it would prevent her from speaking about sexual abuse generally, undermining her ability to advocate for other survivors - work she has said matters deeply to her.

The settlement of this final dispute removes that constraint. In recent years, Barnett's case has been widely viewed as a test of how far states can go in restricting NDAs that keep abuse allegations out of public view, and the California statute she cited has become a model discussed in other jurisdictions.

LaBeouf's recent months have been turbulent beyond this case. His wife, Mia Goth, filed for divorce from him this same week in Los Angeles, listing their separation as more than a year ago and requesting sole custody of their daughter. Neither Barnett nor LaBeouf has issued a public statement about the resolution of the NDA dispute, and the dismissal filing brings to a close one of the most closely watched abuse cases in the entertainment industry's post-#MeToo legal landscape.
