Sean Diddy Combs' time behind bars took a violent turn this week as reports emerged that the disgraced music mogul was hospitalized after a physical altercation with a notorious fellow inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution in Fort Dix, New Jersey.

According to TMZ, which first reported the story, Combs, 56, clashed with Christopher Dudus Coke, a convicted Jamaican drug trafficker serving a 23-year federal sentence since 2012. Sources said the fight broke out last Friday, and Combs was transported by ambulance early Saturday morning to an outside medical facility with what was described as a severe head injury. He was reportedly conscious and speaking when he returned to the prison later that day.

The altercation was allegedly sparked by fallout from a late-September NBC News investigation into Combs' life behind bars. That reporting, based on interviews with former inmates plus photos and video, described Combs paying thousands of dollars a month for special treatment: gourmet meals, laundry and bed-making service, toilet and shower cleaning, massages, and access to contraband including cellphones, Hennessy and other alcohol, and explicit photos.

Prison officials responded to the NBC report with at least two raids that confiscated cellphones from inmates, including Coke's. According to TMZ's sources, Coke, long regarded as a kingpin inside the facility and the former leader of the Jamaica-based Shower Posse, and other inmates blamed Combs for the crackdown and the loss of their own privileges. Combs had been placed in solitary confinement pending the outcome of the investigation; the fight reportedly occurred during one of his daily breaks from confinement.

Both men were subsequently placed in the Special Housing Unit, commonly known as solitary confinement, for a two-week period as punishment. The Bureau of Prisons has not publicly confirmed the fight or disclosed how Combs was hurt.

Combs' spokesman, Juda Engelmayer, said in a statement that the team was aware of the reports and working to confirm the circumstances, adding that Combs' health and well-being were the immediate concern and thanking supporters for reaching out.

The incident compounds a difficult stretch for Combs, who is serving a 50-month sentence following his July 2025 sex trafficking and racketeering trial. In a separate development, a New York judge ordered Combs to pay NBCUniversal nearly $478,000 in attorneys' fees after dismissing his $100 million defamation lawsuit over the Peacock documentary Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy, considerably less than the roughly $990,000 the defendants had sought. His projected release date has also been pushed back, from January 21, 2028 to March 2, 2028, following the reports of his privileged treatment in custody.
