Liam Gallagher has revealed that he was approached to take part in The Celebrity Traitors but declined the invitation, delivering the news in his characteristically blunt style.

The Oasis frontman responded on X on 6 October 2026 to a fan who posted that the BBC should 'put Liam on Celebrity Traitors'. Gallagher replied: 'I've been asked it's not my thing I'm not a celebrity.' The exchange prompted a wave of amusement online, with the fan joking that they had meant 'the normal traitors' rather than the celebrity edition.

The 54-year-old rocker added some colour to his day in follow-up posts, telling followers his plans involved 'some spiritual stuffs then a bit of ironing'. When one follower expressed surprise that he did his own ironing, Gallagher shot back: 'I don't trust anyone ironing my clothes your just asking for theatre.'

The BBC declined to comment on casting for the series. Gallagher had been one of several big names reported to be in the running for the second celebrity edition of the show, alongside the likes of Danny Dyer, Alison Hammond, Daisy May Cooper, Tom Hiddleston and Bob Mortimer. In the end, none of those names made the final cast.

Instead, producers assembled a line-up including Richard E. Grant, Maya Jama, Michael Sheen, James Blunt, Romesh Ranganathan, Rob Beckett, Ross Kemp, Bella Ramsey, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Miranda Hart. The new series launched to record-breaking figures, with the premiere drawing an average of 8.9 million viewers, making it the most-watched debut episode of any series of the programme in the UK, nearly three million more than the first celebrity edition.

Gallagher is no stranger to reality-television banter. Ahead of Oasis's reunion tour in 2025, he joked that he and his brother Noel could settle their long-running rivalry on The Great British Bake Off, suggesting they could 'bake some bread and that, or a cake, or throw strawberries at each other'.

This is not the first time Gallagher has distanced himself from celebrity culture. His claim that he is 'not a celebrity' drew knowing laughter from fans, given his decades at the front of one of Britain's biggest bands, but the singer appeared entirely sincere that the format of lying, scheming and round-table banishment in an Ardross Castle-style setting was simply not for him.

The Celebrity Traitors, hosted by Claudia Winkleman, sees contestants attempt to unmask the traitors hidden among them while completing missions to build a prize pot. If at least one traitor survives to the end, the faithful contestants lose everything. The second series airs on Thursday and Friday nights on BBC One.
